October 6, 2023 – 21 East Gallery provides a key prop for the movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, the 2023 American epic Western crime drama film directed and produced by Martin Scorsese, who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth, based on the 2017 book of the same name by David Grann.  A large number of architectural artifacts, works of art, and other common and rare period items are available for purchase or rental for various productions.

October 1, 2022 – 21 East Gallery adds a large and rare Bronze (20″ x 26″ x 9″) by American Modernist Byron Browne (1907-1961) titled “Reclining Figure.” One of only three known bronze works by Browne with one, “Head”, in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.  This bronze was cast by Roman Bronze Works, Inc. in 1959 and the mold was created in 1956.  Hand signed “Byron Browne 1956.” Browne’s third work, “Bull”, is unlocated. May 21, 2022 – 21 East Gallery owner makes his tenth appearance on History Channel’s Pawn Stars to sell his 1855 Furnace Patent Model made by Chicago inventor S.T. Russell. It is amazing this wood item still exists as it survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.  Watch the episode titled Fender Vendor on YouTube to see if he was able get Corey to warm up to this rare piece of Chicago History!

June 20, 2021 – 21 East Gallery continues to expand its collection of African American art including recent additions by afriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists) artists Bill Ross (Chicago) and Arlene Turner-Crawford (Illinois), and Milwaukee-based artist Evelyn Patricia Terry.  AfriCOBRA was a Chicago-based group of black artists whose shared aim was to develop their own aesthetic in the visual arts in order to empower black communities.   AfriCOBRA  was founded by Jeff Donaldson, Wadsworth Jarrell, Jae Jarrell, Barbara Jones-Hogu and Gerald Williams. 21 East Gallery’s collection includes a work by Jeff Donaldson.

June 7, 2021 – As July 4th approaches, watch an Americana-related compilation of History Channel’s Pawn Stars, Rare and Patriotic Military Items, to see if the 21 East Gallery owner is able to sell his Civil War era Gettysburg photograph to Rick Harrison after it is assessed by Mark Hall-Patton, aka The Beard of Knowledge!

May 15, 2021 – 21 East Gallery acquires original props from FX’s Fargo Season 4, which starred Chris Rock.  This includes boxing club posters as pictured here, jazz club drink menus, a 1950’s winter jacket, a lacquered chair, a black desk phone, and the yellow ceramic serving dish from the undertaker’s dining table.  

February 26, 2021 – 21 East Gallery sells a historically important brochure to the Obama Foundation and its future Presidential Center. This artifact pictures the African American Abolitionist Frederic Douglass and called for attendance at the first National Negro Congress which occurred in Chicago in February 1936.  Founded in 1936 at Howard University, the National Negro Congress continued the push for racial justice and an end to social inequities faced disproportionately by Black workers. Civic, civil rights, labor, and religious groups from across the nation attended.

February 13, 2021 – 21 East Gallery acquired a New York City cabinet card depicting two White Star Line crew members who possibly survived the Titanic sinking on April 14 and 15, 1912.  212 crew members survived while 696 perished with 700 passengers arriving safely in New York City on April 18, 1912.  This cabinet card was acquired from a Manhattan dealer and is attributed to an unknown New York City studio serving the lower and middle class and does not have any identifying marks.  There are some photographs of surviving crew members and these two men have similar features and build to two of those members.  Research is ongoing to solve this titanic mystery!

July 19, 2019 – 21 East Gallery acquires a rare cigar from February 14, 1905 in honor of President Teddy Roosevelt by the Hungarian Republican Club of the City of New York at 257 E Houston St in lower Manhattan.

January 28, 2019 – 21 East Gallery owner makes his seventh appearance on History Channel’s Pawn Stars to sell his War of 1861 Civil War Dog Tag. October 28, 2017 – Les Douches la Galerie of Paris features vernacular African American photographs acquired from 21 East Gallery during its exhibition titled Black Chicago which features photographs by Tom Arndt, Raeburn Flerlage, Yasuhiro Ishimoto, Vivian Maier, Ray K. Metzker, Wayne F. Miller, Marvin E. Newman, and Carlos Javier Ortiz.

July 10, 2017 – 21 East Gallery owner makes his fifth appearance on History Channel’s Pawn Stars to sell his 1859 US Patent Model for a Steamer/Boiler. Watch the episode titled Masonic Pawn on YouTube to see if he turned up the heat with Rick Harrison.

June 12, 2017 – 21 East Gallery owner makes his fourth appearance on History Channel’s Pawn Stars to sell his Gettysburg Photograph of a house which may have been in the middle of a major battle during the Civil War. February 24, 2017 – Civil War veteran cabinet card photograph sold to Liljenquist Family Collection of Civil War Photographs in November, 2015, now sits in the Library of Congress.  Civil War Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) veteran items continue to grow in popularity.

February 11, 2017 – 21 East Gallery opens on a beautiful Saturday. Window display includes folk art whirligig by American artist John Bambic, a modern carving by a University of Chicago student, an oil painting by American artist Meryl Efrem and a world war 1 photograph in a period gesso frame.

January 16, 2017 – 21 East Gallery continues to grow its base of customers from around the world with sales to major institutions including The Getty, Taschen Photography, The Henry Ford Museum, and The Walther Collection.

September 26, 2016 – 21 East Gallery sells an important African American Civil War soldier tintype photograph to a Gettysburg, PA dealer.  This tintype may be on display at a Gettysburg Museum.

September 16, 2016 – 21 East Gallery acquires rare White House Aquia Creek VA sandstone installed in the 1790s and removed between 1949 – 1951.  The Chicago Tribune Tower’s collection of artifacts includes the same in their collection of 149 treasures.

August 31 2016 – 21 East Gallery owner makes his second appearance on History Channel’s Pawn Stars episode, Death and Taxidermy, to sell his late 19th century Melick Clinometer. Watch the video to see if he could negotiate a sale with Rick Harrison.  This item is now a game piece in Pawn Stars: The Game on Facebook.

June 3, 2016 – 21 East Gallery loans a 1952 Rolleiflex camera to the Park Art Center for their Vivian Maier exhibition, Uncrated.  Vivian Maier’s work is a newly discovered national treasure and continues to bring attention to street photography with major exhibitions around the globe.

May 12, 2016 – 21 East Gallery acquires rare 1926 Coney Island watercolor painting by poet and artist E.E. Cummings.  This acquisition complements a rare large oil painting by E.E. Cummings which is currently undergoing research.

February 10, 2016 – 21 East Gallery owner appears on History Channel’s Pawn Stars episode, Lock, Stock, and Pawn, to sell his 1850s Hobb’s Lockbox. Watch the video to see if he locked down a deal with Big Hoss.

September 24,2015 – 21 East Gallery acquires large collection of mid century works by Chicago African American artist William McBride, Jr.  21 East Gallery continues to grow its collection of African American art, photography and artifacts.

January 16, 2014 – 21 East Gallery acquires rare 1862 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Oregon appointment.  Fine Lincoln signature accompanied by that of Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase. 21 East Gallery maintains a large collection of American historical artifacts from before, during and after the Civil War.
